The first ever Hartshill Festival has taken a step closer to happening this week following the inagural meeting on Monday night here at the Royal Oak.

A get together saw an open discussion and things look to be progressing, although no date is yet set.

The school have offered their support to the idea, as have the parish council.

The festival will have it’s own website designed by Mark Philbin of CerTax Accountants and will be active soon.

Watch this space for further developments or come along to the next meeting which has been set for Monday 10 August, 7.30pm here at The Royal Oak again.

Fill your steins and get ready to dance as the marquee plays host to an all singing all dancing Oumpah night!

Get ready to link arms, swing your glasses, bang the tables, slap your thighs and clap your hands to one of the most unusual but enjoyable nights you are ever likely to have in your local.

Here at The Royal Oak we are always prepared to try something new as we attempt to maintain our reputation as a community pub – and this is no exception as we bring you a real slice of european culture.

The tuba, trombone, accordian and claranet will get you off your seats and dancing all night, all you have to do is let your hair down and join in.

The night has been organised by Danny Mulligan and is intended to raise money for the Manry Ann Evans Hospice in Nuneaton.

So leave a space open in your diary for Saturday August 15!

Tickets are priced at £5 each and it is advised to book with Marie or Dave as soon as you can as these evenings are extremely popular so spaces may well be at a premium.

Youv'e never seen anything like it!

The Oak played host to the most glamorous day in the sporting calendar as Ladies Day 2009 took centre stage.

With the Royal Marquee once again in place and the the red carpet awaiting out front, the colour and style of the event proved a massive hit with everyone.

The Royal Oak plays host to the first ever Hartshill Festival meeting at 7.30pm on Monday July 20.

Representatives from the local schools, Parish Council, Constabulary, Hartshill Hayes, senior football clubs and local residents will be in attendance to discuss the ins and outs of putting on a fun-packed day for everyone.

The hope is for a festival to take place in the village next summer and anyone with an interest in the plan is more than welcome to attend the meeting.

Certain discussions have already taken place and the help of others throughout the village is now required.

If you think you may be able to add anything to the meeting then by all means come along, have a drink and have a listen to the plans for what could be the biggest day in the village for years.

Hartshill FC have started their pre-season training regime as they limber up for the new season.

Sessions on Saturday mornings (11am) and Wednesday evenings (6.30pm)  at Hartshill School have now started and the management team are hoping for a good turn out.

With the first team promoted once again and the reserves showing real promise towards the end of the last campaign, pre-season is considered more important than ever.

Competition for places will be hotting up and the performance of every individual is to be carefully monitored as the season edges nearer.

First team boss Wayne Hadley was pleased with the opening session at the weekend which included timed runs, short work and a seven-a-side game at the end.

“It was a good work out and a good laugh, which is what want the sessions to be”, Hadley said.

“I am sure the numbers will be a little better as well over the next couple of sessions,  it was nice to see a few new faces there as well, hopefully they have seen enough to want to come back again as we are always on the look out for anyone who we feel may make an improvement within the club.”

Hartshill FC are offering a brand new £7500 Nissan Micra for anyone who can sink a hole in one on their annual golf day.

The event takes place on Friday July 24 at Whetstone Golf Club, and anyone skillful enough to land an ace will take the car thanks to the sponsorship of Polesworth Garage.

Matty Stanley acheived the feat last year, proving it can be done, so all you budding Tiger Woods’ out there should be sharpening you skills ahead of the big day.

All eyes will be on the par three ninth hole as everyone tries to bag the prize and take the keys for the car.

Matty was closely inspecting Robbo’s Tomato plants for green fly when he suddenly lost his footing !

Late into the evening or should I say early morning Matty was found embeded in Robbo’s young Tomato plants, he said and I quote “I was just checking for green fly when the floor suddenly moved under me and I seemed to topple over”. Having checked the Met office no sudden disturbance was recorded, so we must conclude it was something to do with the numerous pints of Carling that Matty had consumed that evening, topped up by Rita and Robbo’s whisky cabinet !!

Robbo quoted, “one minute he was swaying the next minute he had my best cherry reds as ear-rings, I had to ask him to leave but didn’t know whether to give him a slap or break out the mayonaise !”
