The Royal Oak
The Royal Oak is situated in Oldbury Road, Hartshill, Nuneaton 100 yards away from Hartshill Hayes Country Park. It is a traditional community local, offering a warm and friendly welcome. We serve a variety of drinks & snacks from 12 noon until 11pm every day and offer a simple, quality food menu – which can be pre-booked for larger parties or meetings. We have a separate lounge area for those wanting a quiet drink and a chat away from the hustle and bustle of the main bar area. Both areas have recently been refurbished to a high standard and offer traditional comfortable surroundings.
Sunny days can be spent watching the world go by at benches to the front of the pub or to the rear there is a more relaxed area in the cobbled courtyard leading down to the sprawling garden and decking area, ideal to relax and enjoy your drink on any sunny days. BBQ’s and other events take place most weekends in the garden ranging from themed food nights on the BBQ to fun days and other activities, often seeing the garden full during the summer months.
The pub is very well supported by the community and we strive to keep the community feel, involving as many people as we can in the events that take place during the course of the year. Having a varied mixture of all age groups and backgrounds use the pub helps create that support and atmosphere that is unique to any British local pub.
During the respective seasons we have various teams and clubs that use the pub as their base and most weekdays you can hear the sound of dominoes shuffling, the call of a 180 being hit on the dart board or the balls being racked up for another frame of pool.
This really is a community local where most nights are taken up by one or another of the clubs or teams that use the pub as their base: Most weeks are very busy, and here is a snap shot of a typical week: Every other Monday is Prize bingo, every Tuesday it’s men’s darts & dominoes – we have 2 teams so that everyone gets a game, Wednesday’s is ladies darts and dominoes, Thursday’s is pool.
Football is the main theme for the weekends with 2 teams playing for Hartshill FC on a Saturday afternoon in the Coventry Alliance League and 2 teams playing for Hartshill Sports FC on a Sunday morning in the Nuneaton & District League. Finally if all that isn’t enough we have a well established Scooter Club, Nuneaton Pacemakers for all those Vespa and Lambretta fanatics out there, which meet on a Sunday night all are welcome, meetings usually start around 7pm.
The Royal Oak has a fantastic history and reputation for having top quality sides in all sports and pub games, many photo’s adorn the walls of the previous footballers of years gone by, many of which have children that now play in the current teams themselves ! These sit next to the photo’s of top professional dart players that have played at the Oak on many an exhibition match, players like Wayne Mardle, Steve Beaton, Kevin Painter and the unmistakable Bobby George to name a few.
If you go to the tabs on the right of this page, more about each club is available and they contain the contact details of those involved, so if you feel you could help out or want to join in, then please do so. Marie & myself fully support the clubs that run from the Royal Oak, with excellent food during and after the games alongside the financial support for tops, kits and most things that are so crucial for survival year on year.
If you are passing, pop in and give us a try, if you are local, come and introduce yourself and try one of our fantastic beers or wines, savouring the atmosphere that drinking at home just can’t give you.
It’s simple, the support that you give us enables us to carry on and NOT become one of those statistics about pub closures that we all read about. Please, at the very least visit this site regularly to get an update on what’s on and when, there’s always something going on most weekends, all you have to do is come along and join in………..
Regards
Dave & Marie – your Landlord & Landlady
